Endocrine Glands
Thyroid and parathyroid glands, Human, Monkey
Thyroid follicles of varoius sizes filled with colloid are seen. Do you
see blood vessels in the inter-follicular regions? Large groups of cells
may be present between some of the follicles. If the nuclei are of the
same size and staining characteristics, it could mean the section went
through the wall of the follicle in a tangential manner without
including the lumen. Portion of parathyroid gland is included in the
section. Do not confuse its component cells with the lymphoid
aggregations(usually are smaller and stained darker). Identify the chief
cells(principal cells) and also oxyphil cells(with acidophilic
cytoplasm). Adipocytes are present.
