Gastrointestinal System I
Lip, Monkey
On the external aspect, note the thin skin with hair follicles and
sebaceous glands. Follow the epithelial covering on its surface and note
the transitional change of the epithelium from the keratinised
stratified squamous lining(represents the outer aspect of the lip) to
the non-keratinised stratified squamous lining(represents the oral or
buccal aspect of the lip). Note the presence of mucuous labial glands on
the oral side. The core is made up of striated skeletal muscle fibres
cut in several planes.
