Profs David Koh, Chia Sin Eng and Lee Hock Siang together with 2 other hygienists from the Occupational Health Department, Ministry of Manpower, Singapore were involved in a teaching mission with the Centre of Occupational & Environmental Health, Ministry of Industry, Vietnam supported by the Singapore International Foundation from 10 -14 January 2005 in Hanoi.
The objectives of the Course were:
• To train the participants how to identify, evaluate and control hazards at the workplace.
• To familiarize the participants on the use of a checklist to evaluate the workplace
• To teach participants how to use simple hygiene monitoring equipment and interpret the results of the monitoring
A total of 49 participants consisting mainly of doctors and other health professionals attended.
In addition to introductory lectures, there were practical hands on sessions where all present actively participated. There were two field visits to a textile and garment manufacturing plant and a factory manufacturing rubber tyres. These visits presented opportunities for the actual practice of workplace assessment and hygiene monitoring. |

NUS-NMRC Young Scientist Award
Shi Ranxin, one of our graduate research students, has just received the NUS-NMRC Young Scientist Award in the recent Combined Scientific Meeting 2005 (Nov 4-6, 2005). He was short-listed from total of 240 submissions in NUS-NUH for an oral presentation and defeated other three as the only winner of this award. Congratulations, Ranxin! |
