| AWI Public Health Project Meeting, 9-11 Nov 2008 |
|
The
Association of Pacific Rim Universities World Institute (AWI)
has formed a research consortium aimed at bringing the collective
expertise of leading research Universities around the Pacific
Rim to bear on significant Public Health problems confronting
the Asia-Pacific region. The inaugural AWI Public Health Project Meeting convened in Singapore 9-11 November 2008. Participation by Charter members at the inaugural meeting in Singapore was at a high level, comprising mostly Deans of
Schools of Public Health and Directors of Research Institutes. |
Besides agreeing on the working principles governing the consortium, the meeting launched a first-phase, comparative baseline study of the current status of Research, Policies and Programs relating to Chronic, Non-communicable Diseases in the Asia Pacific Region. The project is being spearheaded by AWI’s Public Health Director Meng Kin LIM and Stanford University’s Asia Health Policy Program Director Karen Eggleston. The preliminary findings of this study are expected to be ready when the Steering Committee meets again at Stanford University 24-25 February, to review progress and plans.
