Bayer Schering Pharma and Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore sign S$3.5 million translational cancer research agreement
Bayer Schering Pharma and NUS will jointly embark on 3 translational cancer research projects. The aim of this collaboration is to profile oncology drugs in an Asian-specific context, to identify novel predictive biomarkers and to investigate novel tumour models with high relevance to the clinical situation.
Singapore Researchers Find Key Gatekeeper Gene that Plays Key Role in Colon Cancer
A team of researchers at the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and the Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology(IMCB), Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) have discovered a new gatekeeper gene. A gatekeeper determines whether or not the disease will begin in the human body - a crucial step in developing both an early diagnostic test as well as a therapeutic target. The absence of this gene opens the door for the growth and development of colon cancer.
National University Health System
The new venture between the National Healthcare Group and the National University of Singapore which will oversee the operations of the National University Hospital, the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and the NUS Faculty of Dentistry, has been named National University Health System (NUHS). Professor Tan Chorh Chuan, Senior Deputy President of NUS, was appointed as the Chief Executive of NUHS.
National University Health System to appoint new chief executive and deputy chief executive at end of the year
In view of Professor Tan's upcoming appointment as President of the NUS, he will be stepping down as the CE of NUHS on 1 Dec 2008. Associate Professor Benjamin Ong, Chairman of the Medical Board of the National University Hospital (CMB, NUH), has been named as the next CE of NUHS and Professor John Wong, Dean of the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine will be appointed as Deputy CE of NUHS.
