Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine wins awards at the NHG 8th ASC Scientific Competition 2009

19 Oct 2009 (Mon) SoM staff and students win awards at the NHG 8th Annual Scientific Congress (ASC) held on the 16 and 17 October 2009 at the Suntec Singapore International Convention & Exhibition Centre.

School of Medicine students are winners of the Inter-Medical School Physiology Quiz

Congratulations to Chan Ng Poh Lin (Pauline), Chen Qingyan, Chua Hui Xin (Melissa), Lau Jian Fa (Linus) and Thng Zheng Xian. This team of year 2 and year 3 medical students has clinched the championship at the 2009 Inter-Medical School Physiology Quiz held from 1 to 3 Oct 2009 in Kuala Lumpur. With participation from top contenders of more than 30 medical schools spanning 11 countries participating in this Quiz, the SoM team faced tough competition and performed exceptionally well to progress through to the final round.

The Quiz comprised of an individual written quiz and a team oral quiz. In the written quiz, three of our medical students - Melissa, Pauline and Qingyan took 1st, 9th and 10th positions respectively among 200 students or more who participated. In the main section of the competition comprising the team oral quiz, our students did us proud and came in first after a nail biting final with Chulalongkorn University which required a tie-breaking round.

Distinguished Visitor Lecture

"A new pandemic of H1N1 Influenza - Its origins, likely course and the global response" by Sir Roy Anderson, Rector, Imperial College

The number of human cases of pandemic (H1N1) influenza continues to increase in many countries.

Against this background, the British High Commission and the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University Health System hosted eminent Infectious Disease expert, Sir Roy Anderson, Rector, Imperial College, on 28 July 09.

Dean of NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine in scientific team monitoring H1N1 virus in Singapore

Dean of NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine Professor John Wong, together with Ministry of Health's Director of Medical Services Prof K Satku, are leading a national team of scientists and clinicians to monitor the development and make recommendations on refining our strategy and control measures to handle the Influenza A (H1N1-2009) situation in Singapore.

This is your opportunity to come and see how NUS can make a difference to your life. M.B.B.S. Examinations (14-29 March 2009)

"The Final Professional Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (M.B.B.S.) examinations conducted by the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS) will take place from 14 March 2009 to 29 March 2009. While our public hospitals put in measures to minimise inconvenience and ensure no disruption in services, we appeal for your understanding and patience during this period.

NUS Receives $12m Gift from Goh Foundation to Advance Paediatric Oncology

The Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS) received a S$12 million gift from the Goh Foundation to help advance knowledge in the treatment of childhood cancer here under the Viva Children's Cancer Program established by Viva Foundation for Children with Cancer. These funds will be used to establish the Viva-Goh Foundation Professorship in Paediatric Oncology, as well as to embark on four research programmes for Bone Marrow Transplant, Childhood Leukemia, Bone Cancer and After Completion of Therapy.
