Groundbreaking Ceremony for Centre for Translational Medicine on 8th April 08

8 April 2008 marked a new chapter in the history of the Medical School. Officiating at the groundbreaking ceremony of the Centre, Prime Minister Mr Lee Hsien Loong said that clinical research will help Singapore grow its medical capabilities, stay ahead of competitors, and maintain its status as a regional medical hub. This new flagship building of the School with state-of-the-art research and teaching facilities will house some of the world's most talented researchers and educators to provide solutions to Asia's medical challenges.

Expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2010, the Centre for Translational Medicine will stand proud at 15 storeys high and provide 39,020 square meters of space for teaching, learning, training, and research. Some of the nation's key biomedical and medical education resources will be situated here, including a state of the art Clinical Imaging and Research Centre and digital media (SMART) classrooms for medical and nursing student teaching.

Some of the most competitive international translational research programmes in cancer and other common diseases will be housed in this building. The site, designated currently as MD6, is also adjacent to the National University Hospital, fostering cross-pollination between doctors and scientists, between ideas and practical applications.
