Curriculum

The program caters for both full-time (1 year) and part-time (2-3 years) students.

Each candidate will require 40 modular credits for graduation. These will be obtained by fulfilling both coursework and research requirements:

  • Coursework  (32 modular credits):
Nine coursework modules will be offered as a core requirement for all students. Coursework will be conducted in two blocks, each comprising six weeks’ full-time study, and held bi-annually (in August-September and February-March).

Part-time students are also expected to complete the modules in Coursework 1, which are foundational, in the first year.
  • Research component (8 modular credits):
The research component will span a minimum of eight months. The aims of this component are to enable students to apply knowledge, acquire skills to plan a project, and to integrate and sustain research within clinical practice.

The student will undertake a project in their chosen area of specialty, under the supervision of an established clinical investigator. A grant of S$ 5,000 will be provided for the project towards consumables and other costs incurred for the learning of the student. Final assessment will be based on 1) project supervisor's report, 2) performance in a scientific review panel and 3) submission of a final report, which should be in the form of a full research proposal, adequate for submission to a local funding agency.
  • ‘Seminars in Clinical Research’ series
In between coursework blocks, a series of presentations by invited experts will be held on a regular basis (up to a maximum of 4 hours a month) to enrich the students’ learning.
