MASTER OF MEDICINE (FAMILY MEDICINE) EXAMINATION PREPARATORY COURSE

Purpose:

This course aims to prepare doctors for the Master of Medicine (Family Medicine) Examination, by exposing course participants to a period of intensive training, including care for the child, adolescent, adult and the elderly, in a primary care setting.

Format:

This advanced Family Medicine course comprises a comprehensive programme, ranging from lectures to practical sessions such as reading of X‐rays and ECGs. The afternoons are spent in hospitals examining patients and discussing management to the standard of a competent family physician.

Lecture topics would generally cover Paediatrics, Geriatrics, Mental Health, Obstetrics & Gynaecology,etc.

The maximum capacity for this intake is 80. Priority is given to all residents/trainees attending the MMed FM Exam Prep Course for the FIRST-TIME.

Any remaining seat placement will then be given to all other residents/trainees (attending the MMed FM Exam Prep Course for the second/third time) on a FIRST-COME-FIRST-SERVE basis.

Please submit your application via Online System for Course Applications (OSCA) and complete the application fee payment by the closing date as stipulated above. Late or incomplete applications will not be entertained.

The following documents must submitted with the online application:

  • 1 passport‐sized photograph (image in jpeg format has to be 400 x 514 pixel)
  • Scanned coloured certified true copy of following documents (Official English translations will be required for stamps or certificates sent that are not in English):
    • MBBS Certificate
    • NRIC for Singapore Citizen / Permanent Resident
    • Employment Pass and Passport for foreigners residing in Singapore
    • Passport for foreigners residing outside Singapore

DGMS is not obliged to give any reason for unsuccessful application.

Withdrawal Policy:

Notice of withdrawal from the course must be given in writing to the Division accompanied by the Tax Invoice (receipt) for fee paid. The entire fee, less application fee, will be refunded when notice of withdrawal is received at least 4 weeks (no later than 13 July 2017) before the course commences. Those who withdraw after this date or who are absent from the course will not receive any refund of the course fees.

Eligibility Criteria for Application of FM Examination (Part 2):

All Candidates applying for the examination MUST have:

  • Full or conditional SMC registration up till 11 November 2017
  • Undergone and satisfied the training and posting requirements of the programs offered by the respective training providers
  • End-of-Training Letter issued by NUHS, NHG, SHS or CFPS (for MMed College Programme - previously known as Programme B)
  • Audit Project endorsed by supervisors
  • A valid BCLS certificate up till 11 November 2017
  • Letter of Confirmation for MMed FM Examination (Part 1) from Pearson VUE

Eligibility Criteria for Sitting the FM Examination (Part 2):

  • A copy of result slip or documentation indicating a pass in the FM Examination (Part 1) within 5 working days of its release
  • A Letter of Admission for FM Examination (Part 2) will be issued upon verification of the pass result

Application:

Please submit your application via Graduate Admission System (GDA2) and complete the application fee payment by the closing date as stipulated above. A step-by-step guide to applying online can be found here.

A successfully completed application does not indicate a successful placement or admission into the exam. Late or incomplete applications will not be entertained. Applications received through email will not be accepted.

A completed application would have fulfilled the following:

  1. all required fields are accurately filled and all supporting documents are uploaded into the system
  2. a unique 10-digit application number is auto-generated by the system (we recommend that you jot down the number for reference)
  3. the non-refundable SGD20 application fee payment is successful and supported by Tax Invoice (also known as the receipt) which is downloadable from the system

The following documents must be uploaded to the GDA2 system by the closing date:

  1. NRIC – for locals/permanent resident
  2. Passport & Employment pass – for foreigners (residing in Singapore)
  3. Passport- for foreigners (not residing in Singapore)
  4. Basic medical degree certificate
  5. Current and valid practicing certificate with SMC (SMC Card valid till 11 November 2017)
  6. BCLS certificate ((valid till 11 November 2017)
  7. End-of-Training letter
  • Audit Project Assessment Form, duly endorsed
  • Letter of Confirmation for FM Examination (Part 1) from Pearson VUE
Submission to DGMS Office by 21 August 2017, 1700hrs 3 bound copies of 40 practice diary write ups
Submission to DGMS Office within 5 working days of its release Result slip or documentation indicating a pass in the MMed FM Examination (Part 1)

 

Photocopies of certificates and/or official translations (in English)* including any other offical supporting documents will be accepted only if they have been prepared and/or authenticated by one of the following:

  • the issuing University or Medical School;
  • Medical Council of which you are registered and licensed to practice
  • Government Ministries of Health;
  • a notary public or Justice of the Peace;
  • Division of Graduate Medical Studies (DGMS) - For authentication by DGMS office, original certificates and documents must be produced.

* Candidates must submit an authenticated translation if their official supporting documents is not in English. A fresh ink stamp must be used to authenticate the copy or translation of the primary medical qualification.

Candidates who fail to present their original documents for verification without acceptable reasons will not be admitted to the examination.

Candidates whose original documents have been damaged or misplaced must apply to the relevant organizations / authorities for replacements or letters of verification.

DGMS is not obliged to give any reasons for unsuccessful applications.
