MASTER OF MEDICINE (PSYCHIATRY) EXAMINATION PREPARATORY COURSE

Course Dates:

Monday to Friday, 19 – 23 May 2014

Friday, 14 March 2014, 12noon

Description:

The 5 day full‐time course which consists of didactic lectures/ interactive sessions/ Clinical session/ OSCE and Mock Exam is designed to prepare candidates for the Master of Medicine (Psychiatry) Examination. Course participants are expected to do all their preliminary readings before the commencement of the course.

Application:

The application status will be made known to applicants after the closing date. DGMS reserves the right to close the application once the maximum capacity of the course has been filled. Priority will be given to local Residents/ Trainees. DGMS is not obliged to give any reasons for unsuccessful applications

All applications and fees must reach DGMS by the closing date as stipulated above. Late or incomplete application will not be entertained and will be returned to applicant. Application received through fax or email will not be accepted. The following documents must be submitted to DGMS by the closing date:

  • Final MMed(Psychiatry) Examination Preparatory Course application form inclusive of the Personal Data Notice and Consent (PDNC) form, duly completed
  • Certified true copy of basic medical degree (MBBS). (Official English translations will be required for stamps or certificates sent that are not in English)
  • 1 passport‐sized photograph

Photocopies of certificates and/or official translations (in English)* including any other offical supporting documents will be accepted only if they have been prepared and/or authenticated by one of the following:

  • the issuing University or Medical School;
  • Medical Council of which you are registered and licensed to practice
  • Government Ministries of Health;
  • a notary public or Justice of the Peace;
  • Division of Graduate Medical Studies (DGMS) - For authentication by DGMS office, original certificates and documents must be produced.

* Candidates must submit an authenticated translation if their official supporting documents is not in English. A fresh ink stamp must be used to authenticate the copy or translation of the primary medical qualification.

Candidates who fail to present their original documents for verification without acceptable reasons will not be admitted to the examination.

Candidates whose original documents have been damaged or misplaced must apply to the relevant organizations / authorities for replacements or letters of verification.

DGMS is not obliged to give any reasons for unsuccessful applications.

Withdrawal Policy:

Notice of withdrawal from the examination must be given in writing to the Division accompanied by the Tax Invoice (receipt) for fee paid. The entire fee, less application fee, will be refunded when notice of withdrawal is received by 19 April 2014. Those who withdraw after this date or who are absent from the course will not receive any refund of the course fees.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Possess a medical qualification for at least 3 years
  • Completed 6 months of Medicine posting (of which 2 months are Neurology postings)
  • Completed 24 months of full time appointment in Psychiatry postings with an accredited institution
  • Completed 2 years of Psychiatry Residency training
  • Pass in 5 Case Write‐Ups Assessment
  • Endorsed by Programme Director and the Clinical Competency Committee of the Psychiatry Residency Programme to have achieved the necessary competency levels to sit the exam

Application:

All applications and fees must reach DGMS by the closing date as stipulated above. Late or incomplete applications will not be entertained and will be returned to sender. Applications received through email will not be accepted. The following documents must be submitted to DGMS by the closing date:

  • MMed (Psychiatry) Exam application form inclusive of the Personal Data Notice and Consent (PDNC) form, duly completed
  • For 1st time applicants only: 5 Case Write‐Ups (Submission date: Friday, 1 April 2016. Pls refer to the Guidelines for Case Write‐Ups Submission for submission details)
  • 2 passport‐sized photograph
  • Certified true copy of following documents (Official English translations will be required for stamps or certificates sent that are not in English):
    • Basic medical degree certificate (MBBS) (in English Medium)
    • Medical registration (in English Medium)
    • NRIC : for locals / Permanent Residents
    • Employment Pass and Passport : for foreigners (residing in Singapore)
    • Passport : for foreigners (residing outside Singapore)
