PROGRAMMES AND COURSES



A. MASTER OF MEDICINE (MMed)



The MMed is an entry qualification into Advanced Specialist Training in Singapore. Currently, the MMed is offered in the following specialties:

 


1. Anaesthesiology  2. Diagnostic Radiology
3. Emergency Medicine  4. Family Medicine
5. General Surgery  6. Internal Medicine
7. Obstetrics & Gynaecology   8. Occupational Medicine
9. Ophthalmology 10. Orthopaedic Surgery
11.Otorhinolaryngology  12. Paediatric Medicine
13. Psychiatry 14. Public Health


Trainees and examination candidates must follow the structured training programmes specified for each specialty. Where required they must record their training in the logbook. They must also complete specified skill courses (eg Basic surgical skills course) as part of their training requirements. In most specialties a Primary or Part 1 examination is a pre-requisite. Short examination preparatory courses are normally conducted by DGMS just before each examination. In Occupational Medicine and Public Health, candidates must undertake a one-year full-time course prior to the examination. All Basic Trainees are given the training/examination guide upon start of training.


B. GRADUATE DIPLOMAS

Graduate Diploma programmes are conducted mainly through distance learning, short clinical attachments and examination. These are aimed mainly at General Practitioners who wish to increase their skills and knowledge in certain subspecialties or clinical areas. Graduate Diplomas are not specialist qualifications. The Graduate Diplomas offered are in: i) Family Practice Dermatology ii) Family Medicine iii) Geriatric Medicine iv) Occupational Medicine.


C. MASTER OF NURSING

An 18-month full time coursework programme leading to the Master of Nursing is offered.


D. OTHER
PROGRAMMES

In response to needs, the Division will initiate new Masters programmes in Clinical and related heath-care disciplines.

A schedule of examinations and course is available for viewing in this website. Trainees and candidates must contact DGMS to confirm the dates which are subject to change.
