VOLUNTEERS: Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if I’m eligible to participate?

Prospective study participants will have to undergo a medical/health screening. This may include:
- Clinical Examination
- Blood Test
- ECG
- Chest X-ray

All these tests are performed at our expense. Additionally, a doctor will be present to discuss the results.

My tests showed that I’m eligible to participate, what’s my commitment like?

We have many varied studies conducted at our centre and you may choose to take part in any study that you are eligible for and which fits into your schedule.

The studies have varying commitments, from 1-2 attendances of 1- 2 hours to multiple days of tests. Should you express any interest in our studies, please feel free to approach our friendly staffs who will discuss available study options with you.

How do I know if this is safe for me?

There are some overriding guidelines that determine conduct of clinical research in human subjects.

In recent times, these originate from Declaration of Helsinki of the World Medical Assembly. This declaration mandates that any research study in human subjects/ patients must have approval of an independent Ethical Review committee and that all participants should be subject to freely given informed consent.

All screening and studies that you participate at our centre are subject to approval by a Research Ethnics Committee of the National Healthcare Group.

In additional, the Singapore Health Sciences Authority (HSA) must approve all studies involving medicines.

The Lilly-NUS Centre for Clinical Pharmacology operates in accordance with Good Clinical Practice Guidelines, Confidentiality and Privacy Standards observed by the various government and international bodies worldwide.

Would my health information be released to the public?

Please be assured that all personal health information collected during screening and studies are kept confidential. This information will be accessed only by authorized personnel involved in study conduct, data analysis and reporting and to regulatory agency inspection personnel as required.

How would I be compensated?

Volunteers would be compensated for transport expenses and time for study and screening activities.
