The aims are to provide the knowledge and to
develop the attitudes required for the effective and safe use of
drugs in clinical practice. The course covers the general principles
of pharmacology and how they may be utilised in a rational approach
to therapeutics, the important techniques of animal and human
pharmacological investigation and the analysis of data from
experimental results. The course also includes a systematic study of
the pharmacological properties of drugs in common clinical use. The
overall emphasis is on the provision of a sound framework of
scientific knowledge, which the student can use to make his clinical
assessment of drugs and to keep abreast of new developments as they
occur.
