Goal Of The Pharmacology Course

To provide an understanding of the pharmacological basis of therapeutics and thereby to promote the safe and rational use of drugs in the treatment of human diseases.


General Objectives

At the end of this course, the student should be able to:

describe the fundamental pharmacological mechanisms involved in determining drug efficacy
apply this knowledge in optimizing drug dosages and in the solution of simple
therapeutic problems
describe the organ-specific and disease-specific mechanisms of drug action
anticipate toxicity based on known mechanisms of drug action
describe the integrated processes involved in drug selection and dosage optimisation in the management of simple clinical problems
describe the pharmacology of commonly used drug classes
