Module PP2106 (Essential):
Pharmacology I (General Principles and concepts) for BSc Pharmacy students
Prerequisites nil
Preclusions nil
Workload 23 lectures, 5 small group tutorials and 4 practicals
To introduce Pharmacology, the scientific study of the actions of drugs and chemicals in living systems.

This module will provide the general principles and concepts of pharmacokinetics (body's handling of drug) and pharmcodynamics (principles/mechanism of drug action) in humans. These foundation principles supporting the scientific basis of therapeutics will promote the understanding of safe and rational use of drugs in disease conditions.
 
Module PP2107 (Essential):
Pharmacology II (Systems Pharmacology) for BSc Pharmacy Students
Prerequisites nil
Preclusions nil
Workload 32 lectures, 3 small group tutorials
To provide an understanding of the pharmacological basis of therapeutics thereby to promote the safe and rational use of drugs in clinical therapeutics.

The module will focus on the pharmacological properties of Drugs used in disease conditions of different systems e.g. cardiovascular system, endocrine system and central nervous system. Other therapeutic agents such as antimicrobials for treatment of infections and anticancer agents will also be included.
 
PR4213 Research Methodology (Elective 4MC)
(module offered in Pharmacy, with participation of Pharmacology)
Prerequisites Pass PR2103 (Pharmacostatistics), PR2104 (Pharmaceutical analysis II), and PR3105 (Pharmacotherapy I)
Preclusions nil
Workload hours + 15 tutorial hours (3 lecturers)
The part offered by Pharmacology is aimed at providing an overview on the principles of quantitative and qualitative research design. The course also gives an introduction to managing a research project (including critical evaluation of literature and writing of research proposals). Finally, the module provides an insight into non-clinical in vivo approaches and in vitro/in silico research approaches.
