Turner Syndrome                                                                                    Click to print page

People with Turner Syndrome are usually rather small and they may have extra skin on the side of their neck.

This is a genetic condition in which the y chromosome is usually missing. It only affects girls.

Heart Problems

Two heart problems may occur in people with Turner syndrome. The most common is a narrowing of the main body artery (coarctation of the aorta) which is usually treatable with surgery. The other problem is the aortic valve which may either be narrowed (aortic stenosis) or have two leaflets (bicuspid aortic valve). These problems can also be dealt with by surgery if they are sufficiently severe.
