It was back to nature for the Turner Support Group on 9 December 2000, when we took a trip to the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve. And what visit would be complete without a hike up to the highest point in Singapore? (Bit of a joke, really, considering that the hill is only 162.5 metres above sea level.)

By the looks of the dripping perspiration and the climbers' red faces, the island's tropical weather doesn't let up even in the morning. But not even the muggy conditions could dampen our spirits, and we made it up to the summit without a hitch. The effort was well worth it, though, as we were treated to a wonderful view of MacRitchie Reservoir, and some other parts of Singapore. To top things off, there were the ever-amusing monkeys and squirrels. Just watching their antics is enough to keep one occupied for ages!

Amid companionable talk and laughter, the return journey back to the foot of the hill took a considerably shorter time - if you're not fighting gravity, you're working with it, depending on which direction you're going!

But that was not yet the end of the morning's programme; we proceeded to the nearby McDonald's at King Albert Park, to satisfy the demands of complaining tummies. It was a very enjoyable meal, to say the least, with new friends being made over McChickens, Fillet O'Fishes, McCrispys and of course Chicken McNuggets! Families got to know one another better, while kids and adults alike took the opportunity to engage in good old table chatter.

All in all, it was an extremely refreshing experience for all who turned up. Thanks to A/Prof. Loke Kah Yin and Dr. Lee Yung Seng for coming up with this, and also to the volunteers for their time and energy!
