INPATIENT SERVICE

The ward team runs a 26-bedder psychiatric ward.

We provide treatment for patients requiring acute psychiatric care, as well as crisis admissions for patients in crisis. We have a 24-hour admission service for patients with psychiatric emergencies.

Examples of the types of conditions we see include:

  • Schizophrenia
  • Mania
  • Depression
  • Adjustment reaction
  • Anxiety disorders
  • Organic psychosis

We co-manage patients with both medical and psychiatric conditions with our medical colleagues.

We use a range of treatment including drug treatment, electroconvulsive therapy and psychological treatment. We identify the needs of the patients and arrange for psychotherapy, cognitive therapy, behaviour therapy, family sessions, relaxation therapy or psychoeducation as indicated.

The ward team works closely with the occupational therapist, the medical social worker, the case manager, the psychologists, the Consultation-Liaison team and the outpatient service. In addition, the ward team helps in liaising patients and their families with counsellors in the community.

The inpatient service is limited for the use of voluntary patients only.
