The role of the cytokine receptor CD137 in bone morphogenesis

The cytokine receptor CD137 is expressed in bone marrow and by chondrocytes and osteoblasts, and is involved in osteoclast differentiation. These data indicate a role of the CD137 receptor / ligand system in bone morphogenesis. The aim of the project is to determine expression, regulation and function of the CD137 and its ligand system in bone synthesis, maintenance and resorption. The project will employ molecular biology, cell culture and immunological techniques, and possibly in vivo experiments in mice.
